History of Professionalisation Research Group

Overview

The History of Professionalisation in Hungary in the 19th and 20th Centuries in a European Context is an OTKA research project that explores the processes which played a decisive role in the history of professions in Hungary from the early 19th century to the mid-20th century. The historical question of the significance of the autonomy, independent identity and social recognition of professions contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of today's social relations. Studying the history of professions enables us to better understand the stratification of Hungarian society, assess its openness or closeness in sociological terms, and develop an understanding of the nature of social integration. It also allows us to explore the roots of contemporary education and employment policy problems and find more effective solutions.
