I examine how debates about US national identity influence the contestation over the foreign-policy role selection of the United States, especially in light of the current issues related to the crisis of the liberal international order. In broader terms, I locate my research in the context of theoretical considerations of the interactions between domestic and foreign policies, of the constructions and interpretations of security challenges and of the hierarchies in International Relations.
